5 Jewelry Trends For Spring 2011

Spring is just around the corner, and regardless of your budget, you can always find nice pieces of jewelry to update your wardrobe. This spring season there are many jewelry trends that just about any fashionista can appreciate – from big and bold to simple and chic.

1. Whimsical and fun

I like to think that unique, playful jewelry should be a trend every season, so I like that designers have come out with pieces that appeal to our child-like aesthetics.
I came across this Tightrope walk “YOGA” necklace ($64) on Etsy created by Berlin designer, François Locher, which features a hand painted miniature woman on a silver pendulum swinging freely on a delicate sterling silver chain.

2. The statement necklace

Statement necklaces continue to make their way onto the fashion scene. After all, isn’t fashion about making a statement about who you are? This is a great piece to express your unique fashion sense. For Spring 2011 this type of necklace can include big, bold gemstones with oversized chains or a bib necklace with a unique design.
I like this vintage Sarah Coventry silver plated necklace ($295.85 at Asos.com) featuring a bib style with a layered cut-out design, drop metal strands on a cable chain.

3. Geometric shapes

Clean, linear shapes in bright gold or silver or complex structural geometric patterns just may be the trend for the future, not just for 2011.
This geometric clamp bracelet by Freedom ($35 at TopShop.com) is one part bold and two parts fabulous.

4. Fringe

From necklaces to bracelets and earrings, fringe is everywhere for spring. Designer brands like Dior and Chanel featured fringe jewelry on the runways with bold colors and intricate detailing.
What I like about these fringed links earrings from Banana Republic ($35) is that they can be worn dressed up or down.

5. Chokers

This type of necklace was popular during the 70’s and 90’s, and now they’re making a comeback. Ralph Lauren featured suede chokers studded with natural stones on the runway while Marc Jacobs gave us a velvet ribbon choker with colored feathers.
I personally like this off-white beaded choker by Undercover ($385 at FarFetch.com) featuring a trapezoidal shape with intricate bead detailing along the front.
